Rachel McPherson

Rachel McPherson

Rachel grew up between Virginia and Iowa. She has taught Family Literacy at Kirkwood Community College, ESL in Spain, and has volunteered as a writing tutor at Oakdale Prison in Coralville through the University of Iowa’s LABB (Liberal Arts Beyond Bars) program. Longtime interests include journal writing, Amtrak train travel, and translation. Rachel’s friends know her best for lengthy voice notes and for sometimes carelessly getting stuck on mountaintops. Upcoming projects include a collaboration on a Spanish translation of her father’s short-story collection, Elbow Room, with Salvadoran poet, Tania Pleitez Vela.

Marquise Jackson

Marquise Jackson

Chicago native and University of Iowa alum, Marquise Jackson is a poet unafraid of the vulnerable. Whether on stage or on the page, he exhibits intense care for the world of poetry. His inspiration is derived from creativity, itself. It is his belief that creativity is a spiritual practice. And that healing, wisdom, and love have no choice, but to rise from it.
