Position: Marketing Director of Mic Check Poetry Fest

Time Commitment: 5-7 hours/week

Opportunity:
Mic Check Poetry Fest, a program of Iowa City Poetry and IC Speaks, seeks a creative team member with strong marketing and organizational skills to serve as Marketing Director for the 2022 festival. Working with festival producers, the Marketing Director will create and implement a promotional campaign for Mic Check Poetry Fest, now in its second year. This is an exciting opportunity to join the festival team and play a key role in driving the festival’s growth throughout the Midwest. 

Responsibilities:
–Meet weekly with festival producers to review marketing needs, strategy, and progress
–Collaborate with festival producers to design social media and print campaign
–Implement social media campaign via Instagram and Facebook
–Distribute print promotional materials 
–Network with local businesses to design and launch #PeepThisPoet
–Communicate with festival talent, sponsors, and partners

They will possess a desire to work in a collaborative, inclusive environment and a passion for connecting with and empowering communities of diverse ages, identities, and backgrounds. 

Skills and Experience:
Iowa City Poetry recognizes that few candidates will have all of the relevant skills listed below, but it is committed to engaging candidates with transferable skills and a willingness to receive guidance.

–Bachelor’s degree (earned or in progress) in English, creative writing, journalism and mass communications, or business
–Professional experience in marketing or literary event management and promotion
–Strong written and verbal communication skills
–Strong project and resource management skills
–Strong organizational skills
–Ability to build community and foster team goals to advance Iowa City Poetry’s anti-racist initiatives
–Qualities of self-motivation and flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment
–Proficiency in digital platforms, including but not limited to Zoom, Facebook, and Instagram
–Proficiency with design software, including but not limited to Canva and InDesign
